    QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR DOG TRAINING.

Is my dog suitable for training?
All dogs are suitable for some form of obedience training from 24 weeks of age and older, and preferably on the correct diet.

Why is my dogs diet of importance to you.?
Diet is directly related to your dogs health and well being, as well as there ability to learn.  We have found that many behavioural issues are best dealt with the easy way with changes in the diet.
We strongly recommend that dogs coming to us for training are on a suitable diet for at least 10 day prior to the commencement of dog training..  We have all heard of the term "red cordial kids", well in the dogs world, there are red cordial dogs and we as professional dog trainers are often unable to assist those dogs that present to us for training on poor diets.  We stronly recommend that the dogs diet not only caters to the nutritional needs of the dogs but also does not interfere with the learning process. One example often used in that of dogs who consume chicken as part of a mixed diet.    It is well documented in Australia now that the growth hormones and anti biotic used in the promotion of rapid growth in chickens has an adverse effect on young dogs.  We recommend Super premium food, that is already made to meet your dogs requirements.  There are many manufacturers and some of them are Royal Canin, Eukanuba, Science Diet and Nutrience.   Most dogs feed on these diets which are highly recommended by vets and breeders, and dogtrainers, are an economical way to give your dog the best food.  It generally costs most owners just 1 to 2 dollars a day! and just 50 cents a day for small breeds.    To purchase some food the easy convenient way go to www.dogfood.com.au
and have it delivered to your door anywhere in Australia,  and to get some advise on the exact type your dog may require feel free to call one of our trainers on 0414 790010. or email us to feeding@dogfood.com.au with details about current diet, age, breed, sex, and we will email you pages of specific information and make a recommendation about feeding your dog.

Where does my dog stay?

With most courses, y
our pup or dog lives with us for the duration of his training. All our kennels facilities are modern and exceed all health requirements. Your dog will love his stay here(& have some fun.)

We currently board dogs at 2 convenient location in the Sydney area, and 1 in Brisbane.   For Sydney . 1. Box Hill, in the Hills District of Sydney, 15 minutes drive, north west of Parramatta, set on 5 acres. 2. Catherine Field, 10 minutes west of Liverpool.  State of the art facility, including indoor climate controlled kennels, and outdoor play areas the size of football fields. Located at the Old Guide Dog Training Center.

The accommodation for the dogs is modern and exceeds the requirements of the Animal Trades Regulations, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act which came into force on the 1st August,1996. Dogs under our care and control are fed according to your instructions, cleaned and individually exercised daily in huge grassed paddocks . Our kennels staff are well qualified to care for your pet, and we have a veterinarian on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What do you feed my dog?

We will feed according to the instructions you give us or with your permission modify the diet to a more suitable one that meets your pups nutritional needs . Also any medication the dog needs whilst here will be administered.
Or why not allow us to feed superior premium Royal Canin food.   We feel that your pet deserves to be pampered.   We feel it is the best food on the market, and as we provide full board while your dog stays with us, it does not cost you any extra.

What if my dog does not complete the course in time?

Courses usually take around 7 days to complete. He stays until completion at no extra charge to you.

Will he do the commands for me?

Yes. He will do them for you before he goes home. Each owner receives a personal lesson with a professional dogtrainer upon picking up their pet, during which time we teach you how to get the best from your pet. Each dog will work correctly for the owner on lead prior to leaving

Will he forget the commands?
No. You should continue to practice the exercises, in order to obtain continued improvement, but the dog will not forget. Also you can come back as many times as you wish to maintain the level of training at no charge.

Can I train him myself?
Generally speaking, no. Most people have by now attempted to train their own dog without success. The reason is that most dogs will resist training to defend their position in the pack. Some well meaning people simply don't understand the behavioural patterns of dogs and this can lead to behavioural problems developing with their pet. Most people do not have the necessary knowledge or skill to teach a dog successfully. Most dogs tend to learn better from professional handlers in a controlled environment. In most cases a much higher standard of obedience may be obtained from an intensive training course. Old habits are hard to break, so if he has been taught incorrectly it may be difficult to retrain the dog. We strongly advise that you do not attempt any form of aggression / protection training by yourself, as too many things can go wrong.

What type of training can I get for my dog?

We train your dog to your requirements. The most popular courses are the Obedience, and Problem Solving Course. We can train the dog to your specific requirements, if required, and they can be discussed when you bring your dog in for training.

Will training change my dog, because I like him the way he is?
Training will not change your dog's temperament. He will understand and complete further commands. What he knows now will not change.

How will I remember all the commands my dog has been taught?
Each owner receives a personal lesson with a professional dogtrainer upon picking up their pet, during which time we teach you how to get the best from your pet. You will also receive written instructions on the command words and hand signals that your dog has been taught. On the day you pick your dog up you will, under instruction, handle your dog and administer all the commands. If you forget you may come back for free lessons.

I'm still not sure whether I need my dog trained?
We strongly recommend that all dogs be trained in obedience. History has shown us that the vast majority of people who were unsure about having their dog trained are extremely glad they did once they saw the benefits obtained from owning a obedience trained dog.

Can I see some of your dogs trained in obedience demonstrated to see what I need?
Yes. We have on a regular basis, demonstration days where we show you what potential dogs have. From there you can decide what you need from your dog. The days are free of charge and there is no obligation. Contact us to find out when the next one is and come along to see the finished product, or come and see when other peoples dogs are going home after being trained.

What if I only want part of a course?
We can tailor courses to meet your needs. Feel free to contact us and we can tailor make a course that suits you.

Will my children be able to control the dog?
Generally most children over 10 can easily administer all the commands. We have had children as young as 5 effectively control obedience trained dogs.

Can you provide a list of your previous clients?

Yes CLICK HERE for list of just a few of our clients.

What do I need to do to get him trained?
Book him in to us, by either phoning on
(02) 9 679 0010 or filling in the booking form on this site Click here. On the day, you should bring in his vaccination certificate, and ensure he is in good health prior to training commencing. As a puppy you should teach him not to be scared of a lead, by placing it on him for short periods and let him drag it around under supervision.

If you have any further questions, e mail them to us and we will send you back an answer soon.  It can be about any related dog problem etc .................................................................................
